Terrain de CricketWith more than 200 days of sun each year, Ile de Ré is an ideal place for sports fanatics. Since 2006, a small group of friends (British and French) had the idea of setting up a club dedicated to this old sport played the world over, since centuries, and by over a billion people today, in over 130 countries : cricket. It was new so it was going to be fun !

The association Ile de Ré Cricket Club was officially born on July 1st, 2009.

The club has a Board/management committe of 8 members who, each, have a double role to play : an administrative role within the club itself (president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary...) and, of course, a role on the pitch as a regular player of the IRCC.

Founding members are :

Mike Stonor, president

Christian Gatta, vice-president

Chris Vadot, treasurer

Its registration number at the Prefecture of La Rochelle is W173002920

Quite soon, a sponsor showed its interest in this new venture, the local branch (La Rochelle) of the international bank, HSBC. The club also invested immediately in equipment : an artificial pitch, which can be rolled out and which allows to play on any surface, but also pads, gloves, bats, player's kit, etc.

Each year, and because the club wants to play more teams more often and therefore get better year after year, the IRCC tries to invest as much as possible in communication tools such as the "IRCC Cricket booklet" (available online) or posters. The local media, whether Le Phare de Ré, Sud Ouest or France Bleu La Rochelle, also keep an eye on "this-thing-the-Anglo-saxons-call-a-sport".

As a result, each year, new members register with the club by passion or curiosity.
